Monarch Labs ("we," "us," or "our") operates Clyp, a marketplace that connects clients with independent barbers for house-call grooming services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use the Clyp iOS app, our website at theclyp.com, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
Information we collect
Account and profile
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and role (client or barber). Barbers may provide license details, portfolio content, and availability preferences.
Booking and location
To match you with barbers and fulfill house-call appointments, we collect service addresses, approximate or precise location (with your permission), booking details, chat messages related to jobs, and en-route tracking data while a barber is traveling to you.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers. We receive transaction metadata such as payment status, amounts, tips, refunds, and Stripe identifiers needed to operate the marketplace and barber payouts.
Photos and reviews (Style Vault)
Clients and barbers may upload inspiration photos, before/after images, and written reviews. Content you submit may be visible to other users according to your settings and our product features.
Device and usage
We collect device identifiers, push notification tokens, app version, log data, and usage information needed to secure the Service, prevent fraud, and improve performance. We use PostHog for product analytics (including session replay on web and mobile where enabled) and Sentry for crash reporting and error diagnostics.
Waitlist and marketing
If you join our website waitlist or opt in to communications, we collect your email and optional city or audience preference. We may send product updates through email providers such as Brevo or Loops until you unsubscribe.
How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Facilitate bookings, payments, payouts, and customer support
- Verify barber licenses and enforce trust & safety policies
- Send transactional messages, push notifications, and optional marketing
- Detect abuse, disputes, and violations of our Terms
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
How we share information
We share information only as needed to operate Clyp, including with:
- Other users — profile, rating, and booking information visible as part of the marketplace
- Service providers — hosting and database (Supabase), payments (Stripe), email delivery, identity verification, PostHog (analytics), Sentry (error monitoring), and other vendors under contract
- Legal and safety — when required by law, to protect users, or to enforce our agreements
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal requirements. You may request deletion subject to exceptions for records we must keep (for example, payment or fraud-prevention logs).
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses essential cookies required to operate forms, authentication, and security features. With your consent (required for visitors in the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland), we also use PostHog analytics cookies and Brevo marketing/tracking tools to understand site usage and improve launch communications.
You can accept or reject non-essential cookies through the banner on your first visit, or change your choice anytime via Cookie settings in the site footer.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update profile details in the app, manage location permissions in iOS Settings, and opt out of marketing emails via unsubscribe links.
Data portability: Signed-in users can download a machine-readable JSON export of their Clyp data from the iOS app under Profile → Edit profile → Privacy → Export my data. The export includes profile details, bookings, messages, support tickets, and related records tied to your account.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. EEA/UK users may have rights under GDPR. You can also contact us to exercise these rights.
Children
Clyp is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us so we can delete it.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level database security. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
International transfers
We may process information in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred internationally with appropriate safeguards where required.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated in-app or by email.
